2011 Taiwan-Malaysia Youth Ambassador Exchange Program

That year, a different summer

I have been yearned to go abroad to learn the cultures in different countries since I was a child. This is a unique opportunity for us to join the Taiwan youth ambassadors exchange program. Upon we were informed that we are selected, we prepared many activities to interact with Malaysia youth. We started our journey with expectations. All things in Malaysia are new to me after we arrived. Although Malaysia’s latitude is lower than us, but it isn’t hotter than in Taiwan. During the time in Malaysia, I also met so many new friends including the Malaysian and the Malaysian Chinese. Because of the Multimedia University internationalization environment, I also met many international students from all over the world.

Another memorable experience is the moment in Melaka. Each individual of us was designated to live in group with the Malaysia students in the dormitory during the second week to further immerse into the local culture. It was really a special opportunity and my first time to have a detailed understanding of the Malaysian, the Islam religion and the lifestyle. I learned to respect diversified cultures is important and the way to live in different countries. Because we lived together during the whole week, therefore we built very close relationship. We learned together, visited Melaka together and played together. The ladies like the sisters chatted about the idols, the perfume and many other things. We really could not help on controlling the emotions but burst into tears in the last day of departure. The friends in MMU hold a farewell party in the airport and gave me so many gifts. I was almost had my hand full to hold hose gifts. My heart is truly touched. The friendship built during this exchange program is invaluable and the most precious memories. Thanks to the well-developed internet that allows us can keep in touch even when we back to Taiwan.

Beside the Malaysia students, we also interacted with local residents in Melaka. Every day they prepared many delicious meals for us. I always full and my weight increased during these two weeks. The rice in Malaysia is fragrant rice and it tasted different from Taiwan’s rice. When I back to Taiwan, I suddenly can’t be used to the Taiwan’s rice. I still miss the food in Malaysia.

I really learn many things during this program and have grown up. The general tourist can’t have such an experience like I do for that in-depth understanding of Malaysia culture through this opportunity. I had met so many friends, learned the culture diversities and improved my English. It’s really an outstanding activity for students in Taiwan. I hope I can join this program again in the future to make more foreign friends. Finally I really thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for granting me this opportunity to join this program.
